winter rain

sweet winter rain
bestow your blessings
upon our desert plain

you douse the night
in liquid delight
morning brings your refrain

rooftops and treetops
glisten in your drizzle
joy i need not explain

wet our parched mouths
with your curing chorus
our dear sweet winter rain

streets sparkle before dawn
cleanse every thirsty lawn
wash every hill and plain

darling desert rain
please linger here a while
though it is not your style

i want to tell you now
before you go away
i know you cannot stay

so i shall count each day
adieu my sweet winter rain
until you come again
