remembrance

they gathered

on and near the bench

that stands in memory of you

the eldest one sat on the bench

your partner stood beside

your younglings orbit them

they brought balloons

that shine in the night

to mark the first year without you

one year ago

such dreadful fright

the day the driver stole your light

gone too, the great tree

also struck down

by the driver who took you so soon

candles flicker

in evening breeze

lights put out by lamented plight

you shine on

within many hearts

but still the loss brings sad blight

mild autumn night

seems so peaceful

quiet vigil under watchful light
