sentinels

silent sentinels
swing and sway
tease the darkness
of nascent day

afore the moon
goes to bed
shadows of sentinels
dance in my head

watchful wind
employs the trees
takes their report
then swiftly flees

gentle sentinels
fuel your dreams
with borrowed leaves
from windblown streams

the light and shadow
of such night’s visions
provide the canvas
for next day’s decisions

the dreams i feel
have a different face
then those you passed
in this endless relay race

’round and ’round
we hand off our dreams
to the silent sentinels
and the wind between

when one ego tries to own
that which we all have felt
this communion we have shared
not some hand we’re dealt

we feel the sting in the day
we struggle to clutch the zen
at night feel it a different way
at night we dream again

we dream upon the wind
share with one another
reminding us to treat
everyone as your mother

drinking in the moonlight
that sneaks inside the room
upon the zoetrope of night
these visions pan and zoom

afore the moon
goes to bed
shadows of sentinels
dance in my head

silent sentinels
swing and sway
tease the darkness
of nascent day
