painted in pastels

your face is painted
pink and purple
soft pastels
both warm
yet radiant

above them flow
your wild hair
in hues of blue

the only grace
saving me from
becoming tangled
in your endless blue hair
is the delicate beauty
of your face

bathed in the afterglow
of the harsh bright light
that lets no detail hide

when the taste
of the crispness
and the bite
of the hot air
fades into
this sweet dessert

you smile
oh glowing face
of the western sky
and my spirit
is renewed
in the shower
of your hues
