suspended star

a single pom pom

beloved blossom
escaped its airborne brig
fell from its cradling twig
thousands of poms
lay on the ground
carpet of yellow plush
who led the spring-time rush
thousands more still hung
where evening songbirds sung
but this one pom was different
for it did not follow precedent
from the heavenly nests
of acacia and avian rests
this one bud descended
and hung halfway suspended
before my eyes it hung
leaving gravity unsung
with slightest breath dancing
yet with its magic romancing
what unrequited gravity
gave this pom its levity
i watched for several minutes
then went about my business
some joker make time wait
as though i would take the bait
this tree and its inhabitants
a circus act of branched tents
i returned after a while
yellow pom still hung with style
in new light i spied the thread
that kept the pom near my head
its fall suspended in time
as through gravity is a crime
yellow pom pom dances free
by a spider’s grace and glee
