reflection

purple shadows
stand tall and long
purple shadows
dance upon
vast apron of night

rippling shallows
upon night’s pond
rippling shallows
become calm
precious gems alight

in the thirteen nights
since the sunset sliver
through frightful plights
that made me shiver

worn so many guises
like grinning cheshire moon
each day later rises
until this opalescent swoon

neighbors burning tallow
the night erupts in song
bloated ball glowing sallow
ignites the blessed throng

pulls their spirits from the gallows
to bask under precious this orb
its glow their cohort hallows
lord’s reflection they absorb
