parenthetical

crescent moon hangs
like a parenthesis
left
alone
glowing crisply in the sky

all he can do is wait
a week for his mate
pregnant from first sight
until the fourt’night
growing gibbous to my eye

but of the paired parens
and their dark antiparens
the week or the two
bracketed by you
gnowing always time must fly

like bookends for the week
who turn the other cheek
right
‘fore night
sow the seeds we reckon by
