guten nacht

i heard a voice from afar
i heard the singing of a star
twinkling in the night
as yalith would listen
before the many waters
i sat perched upon my rock
and listened to the night

“Stille Nacht! Heil’ge Nacht!
Alles schläft; einsam wacht”

this one dear star
still sings within my heart
this one dear star
sparked a nebula alight
nursery of singing in the skies

“Stille Nacht! Heil’ge Nacht!
Alles schläft; einsam wacht”

this one dear star
led whole clusters in song
making land and sky glow bright
taught those near and far
distant constellations to sing

“Stille Nacht! Heil’ge Nacht!
Alles schläft; einsam wacht”

although i can no longer see
in that one spot in the sky
this star’s precious light
its spark is in ten thousand faces
lighting where there’s dark

although i can no longer see
in that one spot in the sky
the light it sparked
still burns inside
never quenched
in any day or night

glowing always
utterly alive
this star lives on
endlessly inside
neither fading
nor diminished
always knowing
cherub’s smile
hark i hear it now
tabernacle of the skies
orchestrated by the maestro
procession waves goodbye
always burning inside
star ever bright
called when flames were few
home amongst the heavens
ultimate adieu
