eighty-five glowing candles

eighty-five glowing candles
adorned with waxy handles
fluid flames flow into night
bathe deep dark shadows in light

cereally fortified
munificence glorified
consummate comic chemist
hilarious humorist

you could have stayed in green-wood
uphill from y’old neighborhood
arrived in yellow taxi
return in something classy

you could have sprinkled like spice
nurtured birds of paradise
dwelt in lush green gardens nice
into their roots your bones splice

how oft’ you’d wear lime green pants
gave bold brave colors half a chance
donned sharp violet tuxedo
maximized your albedo

great grand stories you would weave
until laughter begged reprieve
every word would i believe
tales’ magician up your sleeve

even pranks to honest john
through the years endure hereon
still a hundred years from now
the universe will wonder how

little lithium down the loo
some sodium sure would do
unfinished plans for tesla grid
within maple beams plans were hid

any old genius can paint
themself into a corner
only a true professional
could construct their own closet

every one inch square has a story
some benign some quite eerie
woven in tantalizing tales
identical clones tied in bales

primly trimmed neighbor stacks
cleansed of mucilage and wax
such history they cannot whisk
hungry pum-pum arrived by disc

eighty-five glowing candles
adorned with waxy handles
dreams to fill a million mantles
dancing on pins of angels

taught me amor de amorphous
how to spin from Morpheus
voices and songs of clouds
individuals in crowds

taught me and prana how to breathe
even when you had to leave
undulating oceanic
bringing bardic magic

fluid flames flow into night
bathe deep dark shadows in light
your love has given me sight
so i can see all as bright
