indigo amulets

indigo bulbs hold secrets of the past
beneath blackened blossoms
ancient brightness they had cast

hark the ebony pitayas sweet song
gone from luscious red to dark
fuchsia’s bitterness is gone

ushered in with autumn’s heralds
now they drop their standards
yield their stations spiral barreled

preparing for the harkening of spring
cereus slough off violet amulets
of renewal and hope they sing
