seven billion heartbeats

not even one billion heartbeats
have echoed through this cheery chest
since last i saw you at the gate
so many many moons ago
tempus fugits oh so slow

from the sacred conch
blew oystered pearls
cloistered boys and girls
into their lives to launch
futures full of twists and twirls

within a single second
just one heart rhythm of mine
seven billion heartbeats chime
each moment in this spinning world
more heartbeats than this life of mine

and this solo sapiens de homo
join heartbeats of our feathered friends
hairy hordes of bearded beasts
croaking three chambered hearts
in this symphony each heart plays their part

even the oceans sing this song
swiftly swimming bicameral beating
each body of water competing
lake lyres winning in their finning
within each heart dear blood is swimming

come join this concert of the heart
and hear the whole world once you start
though strong your heart begins to fade
as it becomes one with the raid
independent unique yet unified

god sent a heartbeat to us all
each voice within the whole replied
let the music play within your heart
come join this concert of the heart
and hear the whole world once you start
