holy blanket

our blanket has a hole in it
through which i see the stars
and by their light upon this stage
on which we play our parts

i peer out to the holy heavens
and sing a soulful song
star weavers paid a severance
this tune weaves on and on

i feel a tug upon the sheets
our blanket flung aside
gone at once the ribs and pleats
into naked night i ride

our very core to draft exposed
winter wind sends a chill
voice contracts song transposed
new tune unforced by will

our blanket has a hole in it
through which i see the stars
and by their light upon this stage
on which we play our hearts
